I. Перепишите следующие предложения. Подчеркните в них слова, оформленные окончанием –s, и определите по грамматическим признакам, какой частью речи являются эти слова и какую функцию выполняет это окончание, то есть служит ли оно:
а) показателем 3-его лица единственного числа глагола в Present Indefinite;
б) признаком множественного числа существительного;
в) показателем притяжательного падежа имени существительного.
Переведите предложения на русский язык.
1. Young people spend much time with their friends in other people’s homes.
2. As he knows English not well, he needs his friend’s help.
3. A solicitor deals with petty crimes and some matrimonial matters in Magistrates’ Courts.
II.Перепишите следующие предложения, найдите и подчеркните в них группу имени существительного. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на особенности перевода определений, выраженных именем существительным.
1. The doctrine of precedent is a central feature of modern common law system.
2. All bodies of state power in Russia are elective ones.
3. The House of Lords consists of hereditary and life peers and top church officials.
III.Перепишите следующие предложения, содержащие разные формы сравнения, подчеркните их и переведите предложения на русский язык.

V.Перепишите следующие предложения, подчеркните в каждом из них глагол-сказуемое и определите его видовременную форму и залог. Переведите предложения на русский язык.
1. The investigator works in close cooperation with other officers of the operative group.
2. They will interview witnesses and interrogate criminals.
3. The police officers proved the guilt of the suspect.
IV. Прочитайте и устно переведите текст. Перепишите и письменно переведите 1, 3, 4, 5 абзацы текста.
1. Customs are social habits, patterns of behaviour. They are informal rules of social and moral behaviour. Some rules we accept if we belong to particular social institutions, such as religious, educational and cultural groups. The rules of social institutions are more formal than customs.
3. Custom is one of the principle sources of law. But it is not important only as a source of law, for even today customary rules have almost the same power as rules of law. Many fundamental rules of the Constitution are “conventional” (customary) rules.
4. In modern times most general customs do not exist. Many of the early rules of the common law were general customs which the courts adopted. And now they are laws.
5. When governments make laws for their citizens, they use a system of courts and the power of the police.
