James Fenimore Cooper. The Pioneers

The novel is set in 1793-1794, in the village, located at the source SASQUEHANNA of lake Otsego, that is, in those places where Cooper grew up, and at a time when he was 4 — 5 years. The book tells about the complex relationship between two groups of villagers:— new settler headed by judge Marmaduke Temple, who feel themselves masters of life, with other people whom society has deprived of all: Oliver, Effingham, confident that the judge seized his inheritance, the elder John Mohikanin, or Chingachgook, the tribe who once owned all the land in this area (in real history the tribe of the Mohicans owned the lands East of the Hudson river), and hunter Netti, Bampo, which hunting rights have been limited by law with the appearance of the village.
