Dmitry Merezhkovsky entered literature as a poet and translator, tried himself as a critic and playwright, his trilogy "Christ and the Antichrist", research "Leo Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky" and "Gogol and the Devil" (1906) gained immense popularity.
